2018 Franklin County Nursing Scholarship

The 2018 Franklin County Nursing Scholarship is currently open to all high school seniors living and attending high school, for at least 1 consecutive year, in Franklin County and who have been accepted into an accredited four-year nursing program. Applicants are required to include essays, briefly indicating their short and long term goals, as they pertain to nursing school. Letters of recommendation are required of each applicant’s high school Guidance Counselor, as well as two other adults. Every applicant is also required to submit a copy of their official transcript. A stronger consideration will be given to students requiring financial assistance. The deadline for submission is Thursday, March 29, 2018.

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners, recognizing the extraordinary demand for skilled nurses in the area, awarded six - $2,500.00 nursing scholarships in its 2017 inaugural year to deserving area high school seniors pursuing a career in nursing. Tiffany Bloyer, Director of Human Resources for Franklin County Government, was tasked with researching the nursing scholarship program for Franklin County high school students. Ms. Bloyer brought to fruition the metrics and details of establishing the Franklin County Nursing Scholarship program, which was unanimously approved by the Commissioners in January, 2017.

The 2017 Nursing Scholarship selection committee included distinguished members from our nursing community: Keystone Health’s founder, President, and CEO Joanne Cochran; and Barbara Rossini, Vice President for Community Relations at Summit Health; as well as Tiffany Bloyer, Director of HR. “We are extremely pleased with the academic qualifications shown by our local high school seniors, and especially the desire each student possesses, which made the selection process extremely difficult.”, remarked Ms. Bloyer. Ms. Bloyer continued, “All students showed a sense of enthusiasm and dedication to the profession. Our first-year applicants also demonstrated involvement in extra-curricular and community-related activities, with a majority of the students demonstrating a strong focus on volunteering within the field of nursing.”

The scholarship award amount for each of the six recipients was $2,500, which was directly applied toward tuition and/or room & board. These scholarships are non-renewable.

As these young adults continue on their journey to obtain a higher degree of knowledge, we sincerely hope they choose to seek a career path locally, and make a positive impact on the lives of the residents of Franklin County.
