Tips On Registering To Vote, Updating Voter Information

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvanians have until Oct. 20 to register to vote or to make changes to their voter registration information ahead of the state’s Nov. 4 Municipal Election.
Qualifications to Register to Vote in Pennsylvania
To register to vote in Pennsylvania, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age on or before the day of the election.
- Be a citizen of the United States for at least one month before the election.
- Be a resident of Pennsylvania and the election district in which you want to register to vote for at least 30 days before the election.
Registering to Vote for the First Time or Updating a Voter’s Information
- Submit an application online at www.pavoterservices.pa.gov.
- Obtain a paper voter registration application from a candidate, political party or other federal, state or municipal office.
- Request a paper voter registration application from the Franklin County Voter Registration Office located at 272 N. Second St., Chambersburg, or by calling 717-261-3886.
- Download a voter registration application from the Department of State’s website, www.pa.gov/agencies/vote, or the Franklin County website, www.franklincountypa.gov.
- Apply at a Department of Transportation photo license center when updating a driver’s license.
- Apply at a government agency:
- State offices that provide public assistance and services to persons with disabilities
- Armed forces recruitment centers
- Clerk of Courts office
- Area Agencies on Aging
- County Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities offices
- Centers for Independent Living
Once an application is processed, voters will receive a voter registration card in the mail noting the changes they have made along with the location of their polling place. Applications received or postmarked after Oct. 20 will be processed for the General Primary in May 2026. First-time voters will be asked to show ID the first they vote. Voters who have made any updates to their registration may be asked to show ID following the update. This is the only time voters will be asked to show ID.
You may use one of the following forms of photo identification, so long as it is not expired, canceled or revoked:
- Pennsylvania driver’s license or PennDOT ID card
- ID issued by any Commonwealth agency
- ID issued by the U.S. government
- U.S. passport
- U.S. Armed forces ID
- Student ID
- Employee ID
If you do not have a photo ID, you can use one of the following so long as it includes your name and address:
- Voter registration card issued by the Voter Registration Office
- Non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth
- Non-photo ID issued by the U.S. government
- Firearm permit
- Current utility bill
- Current bank statement
- Paycheck
- Government check
Offices on the November Municipal Election ballot include judge of the superior court, judge of the commonwealth court, county treasurer, school director, tax collector, township auditor, township supervisor, borough mayor, borough councilperson, magisterial district judge #39-3-04, judge of election and inspector of election.
One Franklin County polling location has permanently changed ahead of the November election. Voters in the Metal 3 precinct will vote at the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church, 16950 Main St., Spring Run.
