Commissioners Salute Salvation Army For Service To Franklin County
Commissioners
May 16, 2025

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin County Commissioners have proclaimed May 12-18, 2025, to be National Salvation Army Week in Franklin County.
The Salvation Army has been serving the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of Franklin County residents since 1906. Although the organization is most visible during its holiday season Red Kettle campaign, the Salvation Army provides life-changing aid and services 365 days a year. That includes being present wherever needs are greatest, particularly during times of crisis, where vulnerable individuals are more at risk of becoming homeless, food insecure, addicted or spiritually tired.
In the last year alone, the Salvation Army Chambersburg Corps provided the following services to area residents:
- assisted 2,882 people through financial assistance programs, such as rental and utility assistance
- served breakfast and lunch daily to 150 individuals, guaranteeing food security for the vulnerable
- distributed over 4,000 toys, presents and food to 1,200 children, spreading joy and hope to families who would otherwise have struggled to give their children gifts at Christmas
“For over a hundred years, the Salvation Army has played an important role in our local communities,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst. “The organization is a model of how all of us can lend a helping hand to others in need, whether that’s by volunteering our time through community service or by offering financial support.”
By highlighting National Salvation Army Week in Franklin County, the commissioners are urging residents to recognize the impact the Salvation Army of Chambersburg has had on Franklin County and to give back to their communities in similar, personally meaningful ways.
