Five Seniors Awarded Franklin County Veterans Affairs Scholarships

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin County Commissioners and the Franklin County Office of Veterans Affairs are pleased to announce the 2026 recipients of the We Support You Scholarship. Five area high school graduates will each receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship to continue their education after graduation.
The We Support You Scholarship program provides financial support to area veterans’ dependents. Eligible applicants are high school seniors residing in Franklin County who have been accepted into an accredited higher learning institution and who are in need of financial assistance.
Students receiving scholarships this year are:
- Sawyer Allen, a graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, who will be studying anthropology and philosophy on a pre-law track at the University of Pennsylvania;
- Tara Brown, a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, who will be studying nursing at Messiah University;
- Camellia Holthaus, a graduate of Fannett-Metal High School, who will be studying music education at Gettysburg College;
- Luke Metz, a graduate of Commonwealth Charter Academy, who will be studying theology and apologetics at Liberty University; and
- Kenney Tripp, a graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, who will be studying advertising and public relations at Susquehanna University
“We are proud to award these scholarships to such a deserving group of students,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst. “Their loved ones served our nation, and presenting these scholarships is a small way for us to express our gratitude on behalf of all Franklin County residents.”
To be eligible for the We Support You Scholarship, applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and participate in both extracurricular and community service activities. Students must also complete the scholarship application and submit three letters of reference, including on from their high school guidance counselor, along with other documentation as noted by the application instructions.
A portion of funds for the scholarship comes from donations to the Franklin County Veterans Affairs Outreach Fund; this year’s scholarship was supported by a donation from the Elks Lodge 600, Chambersburg. Donations to the fund can be made by dropping off or mailing a check, made payable to Franklin County Veterans Affairs, Attn: Outreach Fund, to the Franklin County Veterans Affairs Office at 425 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
