CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin County Commissioners are pleased to announce the addition of two new staff to the county’s veterans affairs department.

Joshua Curry has been appointed as the Franklin County Veterans Affairs director. As director, Curry will be responsible for overseeing services, benefit coordination, advocacy and outreach efforts to support Franklin County’s more than 13,000 veterans and military families.

Joshua Curry

Curry brings a wealth of leadership and management skills to his new role. He has 20 years of experience with Abraxas Youth and Family Services, South Mountain, where he most recently served as program manager of the nonprofit’s leadership development program.

As a veteran, Curry also brings lived experience to his new position. He served more than two decades with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s 1069th Military Police Company and retired as a Platoon Sergeant. During his service, Curry oversaw and coordinated transportation logistics and customs clearance for cargo and equipment assigned to military units in Iraq. He also created an inventory management system to increase efficiency in operations and the timely replenishment of supplies and managed a substance abuse detection/prevention program for fellow soldiers.

“We’re excited to welcome Josh Curry as our new director of veterans affairs,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst. “With the knowledge and experience he brings to the table – as well as his personal experience in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard – we expect great things, and we know he and his staff will continue providing excellent customer service to our veterans.”

Curry holds a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Shippensburg University as well as several professional certifications. He is the recipient of numerous awards both for his military service and for his professional work with Abraxas.

“Having served in several different compacities over the past 20-plus years, whether it was the military, my time working with youth in the juvenile court system or volunteer work, I have always worked to do the best job I could in order to see positive outcomes and accomplish the mission at hand,” said Curry. “In taking on this role, I intend to continue this trend. With my team, we will continue working to meet the ever-changing needs of our veteran community and provide recognition to their service and sacrifices that have been made in the name our great nation.”

Tabitha Newlin

In addition to Curry’s appointment, the Franklin County Office of Veterans Affairs also recently welcomed Tabitha Newlin as its new administrative assistant. A graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, Newlin is also a Pennsylvania Army National Guard veteran and brings a variety of experience to her role with the county.
